Secondary Curriculum

An International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme fosters creativity and imagination. IB students and teachers are encouraged to explore global and local issues, including developmentally appropriate aspects of the environment, development, conflicts, rights, and cooperation and governance. Through inquiry, action and reflection, the IBDP aim to develop a range of competencies and dispositions that include skills for thinking, working with others, communicating, self-management and research. It offers curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected.

The DP specifically is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 12 to 18, for success at university and life beyond. In the Diploma programme, a student can choose six subjects from six subject groups. The subjects are offered in both standard and higher levels, the difference being the number of teaching hours.

A Secondary education is based on these principles

Core

In addition to disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, the Diploma Programme features three core elements that broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

The extended essay asks students to engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the DP subjects they are studying.

Theory of knowledge develops a coherent approach to learning that unifies the academic disciplines. Students inquire into the nature of knowing and deepen their understanding of knowledge as a human construction.

Creativity, action, service (CAS) involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme.
